“This is where the Yoshis live.., Watermelon Island and Cantaloupe Island. The Yoshi on the middle island is surrounded by whirlpools, and can't get off the island! That Yoshi's best friend is worried, and watches from the shore. Please, do something!”
Koopa Troopa, Mario Party

Yoshi's Tropical Island is Yoshi's board in Mario Party. It consists of Watermelon Island on the left, Cantaloupe Island on the right (both islands are shaped like two Yoshis), two adjoining bridges, and a small island in the middle.

Many Yoshis are said to live here, though only two are shown on the board (three if one of the players selects Yoshi). A Pink Yoshi is on the small island and is surrounded by whirlpools, while a Blue Yoshi is watching from Watermelon Island, unable to do anything about it. Players need to collect Stars to get rid of the whirlpools and reunite the two Yoshis.

At the end of the game, the winner's Stars get rid of the whirlpools and form a bridge for the Blue Yoshi to cross to meet his friend on the small island. The winner quickly comes to the island as well, and the players in second and third place, Toad, Koopa, Boo, a Thwomp, and the Star follow. The player in fourth place tries to join them, but is captured and taken away by Bubba.

Unlike other boards, the individual Stars do not merge into one big Star.

Layout[edit]

The board is divided into two islands with two one-way toll bridges between each one, with no other branching paths. Yoshi's island ds walkthrough. This ensures that a player must pass either Toad or Bowser every time they circle an island, and must remain on the same island if they cannot afford to pay the toll to cross.

Events[edit]

  • Stepping on the Happening Spaces will cause Bubba the fish to take Toad to the opposite island, and Bowser will come to the spot where Toad was.
  • If a player passes Bowser, he will force them to buy a defective Bowser Tube for 30 Coins.
  • Two Thwomps block the bridges to the opposite island, and request a fee from players if they want to pass to the other island. The fee always starts at 1 Coin, but goes up by at least one Coin each time (at payers' discretion) until it reaches the limit of 50 Coins to pass.

The following table shows how many spaces there are on the board, and how many there are of a certain type.

“What're YOU lookin' at? If you wanna challenge me, you have to bring Cookies!”
Boshi, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Boshi is a Blue Yoshi with an attitude, and the rival of Yoshi. Boshi is a loner and wears sunglasses and a spiked collar around his neck. Boshi, like many other Yoshis, can only speak the Yoshi language. Yoshi is bilingual and translates Boshi to make Mario understand. He (along with many other Yoshis) lives on Yo'ster Isle, home of the famous Mushroom Derby races. However, he speaks in a much deeper pitch compared to the other Yoshis.

One day, Boshi defeats all the other Yoshis in a race and becomes the champion of the Mushroom Derby. Boshi then calls himself boss of the Yoshis. Under his reign, the races of the island are canceled. In fact, Boshi himself is the only one allowed to use the racecourse. Although the other Yoshis disliked Boshi's rule, they felt obligated to obey the champion of the derby.

During the events of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Mario travels to Yo'ster Isle via the Pipe Vault. Once there, Mario meets up with his old friend Yoshi. The green Yoshi delivers the bad news of Boshi's reign, and Mario decides to help free the island. Yoshi recognizes that Boshi has a weakness for Yoshi Cookies and asks a friend to loan him some cookies so Yoshi and Mario can confront Boshi. If Yoshi can win a race against Boshi, then he will become the new champion of the Mushroom Derby, causing Boshi to lose his authority. Boshi, who would never decline a wager with Yoshi Cookies on the line, agrees to a race.

If Yoshi wins the race and becomes the champion of the Mushroom Derby, the other Yoshis congratulate him and demand that he become the new boss of the island. Yoshi declines the offer, stating that the races should be free for everyone to participate in, not controlled by a boss. Yoshi's words even reform Boshi, who agrees to participate in fair competition. Boshi, however, still likes to stick to himself, but he has learned to enjoy the spirit of competition. Proving he is still a good runner, Boshi manages to win a race every once in a while; however, he is not the dominant racer he made himself out to be.

The ending cinematic of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars seemed to show that Boshi had befriended Croco after the latter had apparently moved to Yo'ster Isle.
